What will Infiniti's first all-electric sedan look like? The luxury vehicle division of the Japanese automaker Nissan recently let the world know with a sneak peek at its Vision Qe concept, which is a sleek fastback that aims to light up EV design. The press photos were dark, but you get a good idea of what the designers are going for.
The concept, revealed at an event alongside Tokyo Bay on Oct. 24, captures Infiniti's evolved design language (called "Artistry in Motion") and sets the tone for its first all-electric sedan. It blends artistic details with a single fluid design gesture that flows from front to rear, showcasing an overall design profile that captures a sense of speed, dynamism, and movement while retaining a feeling of graceful motion. The concept car is muscular but rounded -- two characteristics that don't always go together.
The Infiniti Vision Qe concept is finished in bespoke Shadow Blue paint, a deep blue base coat enriched with lustrous gold highlights. The color shifts as light and shadow dance across the surfaces, complementing the warm gold illumination. Infiniti's recently refreshed visual identity is anchored around these two colors.
The concept rides on large wheels that feature a striking geometric pattern inspired by the tightly wound coil of an electric motor. A warm gold treatment on the accents contrasts with the rich blue body color.
At the front, Infiniti's signature double-arched grille has been reimagined for the EV era. It is now represented by sculpted lines within the front fascia and illuminated with a bright LED outline, and a 3D emblem helps to make the whole thing pop. A "digital piano key" lighting signature graces the concept's front and rear, illuminating in a brilliant shade of gold. Slender headlights connect from fender to fender, accentuating the concept's width.
Digital piano key tail lamps run the full width of the rear and are seamlessly integrated within an aerodynamic lip. The lamps curve in a gentle arch that intersects with the bodyside panels with razor-edge precision.
There are no images of the inside yet, so we have a lot to look forward to. The company has yet to say when this vehicle might hit showroom floors. What do you think of this new Infiniti design?
